LEAP Program

Leadership Program (LEAP)

FASFAA believes in the power of leadership development, and LEAP is our signature program designed to empower new and emerging financial aid professionals through a blend of mentorship, monthly leadership training, interactive assignments, and a capstone project experience.

Leadership Readings

This year’s program will explore The Truth About Leadership by James Kouzes and Barry Posner. This research-based book highlights 10 essential leadership truths and will serve as the foundation for reflection, discussion, and practical application throughout the program.

Program Components

LEAP includes:

  • Monthly virtual leadership sessions via Zoom (October through May)
  • Weekly assignments to build momentum and reflection
  • A one-on-one mentor relationship with a seasoned financial aid leader
  • A final Capstone Project Presentation
  • Recognition at the 2026 FASFAA Annual Conference

Sample Leadership Topics

  • What Is a Leader?
  • Values & Vision
  • Effective Communication
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Team Strengths & Leadership Style
  • Change & Crisis Leadership
  • Leading with Integrity & Accountability
  • Operational Leadership in Financial Aid
  • Capstone Project & Leadership Presentation

Mentorship Matters

Each participant will be paired with a current financial aid professional to serve as a mentor and leadership coach throughout the program. Monthly check-ins are required, but our hope is that the relationships formed will continue long after LEAP concludes.
